I wish to submit an objection to Montefiore Foods’ application to extend the hours in which they are permitted to sell alcohol.  The neighbourhood is primarily residential and already contains another off-licence in this parade of shops.  Residents have expressed concerns about an increase in noise, anti-social behaviour and under-age drinking.

The proposed premises wishes to operate from 10am to 11pm, very late for a residential area which is heavily dominated by families with young children. In addition, the premises is in the immediate vicinity of the Montefiore Spire Hospital.

Montefiore Foods is very close to St Ann’s Wells Gardens, which already has persistent and serious problems with anti-social behaviour. Extending the licensing hours is likely to increase the frequency and intensity of anti-social behaviour in this park, and its immediate vicinity.

Furthermore, there have already been some incidents in Montefiore Road in the vicinity of the shops and take-aways which necessitated calling out the police; the area already has issues and residents do not wish to see those issues increase.

I would wish to attend the panel that deals with this application.

Kind regards,

Birgit Miller

Dear Sir/Madam,

As a resident if the REDACTED, I would like to express my objection to the proposed extended licensing hours for the off license on Montefiore Road.

I have lived here for REDACTED and have noticed a huge increase in noise levels &  disruption as we now have two businesses selling vapes, cigarettes & alcoholic drinks.

The extended licence would undoubtedly mean that this would increase further. Please support us in this regard.

Many thanks, REDACTED

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to object the extended alcohol license being applied for (extension time of 22:00-23:00)

REDACTED I am concerned about the increasing footfall REDACTED and also the noise levels.  We are currently experiencing high noise levels as it is until shop closure of 23:00 and to extend the alcohol purchasing times to closing time will only increase the people gathering outside, talking, and the comings and goings of motor vehicles.

Please also consider that there is a hospital opposite with patients recovering and resting.

 Kind regards

Subject: Representation: Late License Application for The Sweet Shop in Montefiore Road, Hove

EG CON END 28.06.2023 VALID PCD, PPN, PS & PCH (S1)

Dear Sir or Madam

To further my backing of the late license for The Sweet Shop in Montefiore Road, I shall address the following.

The Prevention of Crime and Disorder

The staff of The Sweet Shop present as quiet, responsible and professional people.  When coming home at any point in the day or late evening, I have never witnessed a disturbance from the other off-license in Montefiore Road, the fish and chip shop or the Indian takeaway business - all of which open late into the evening.  Nor have I ever witnessed such incidents caused by the presence of The Sweet Shop, either.  This points to Montefiore Road being a reliably quiet area, and nothing in the comportment of the staff at The Sweet Shop leads me to think that their ability to function as a late off-license would change this.

The Prevention of Public Nuisance

I am aware of no evidence or testimony that would support a charge of public nuisance against the running of The Sweet Shop.  Again, the staff all present as respectable, honest and professional people.  The local customer base, as implied above, are typically quiet and law-abiding, comprised of residents of the area.

Public Safety

I have visited the shop many times since it opened.  Applying the standard of office Health and Safety, in which I have had some training in my own line of work as a government official, on no occasion have I seen any breaches or lowering of standards of public safety.  The lighting is adequate, I have witnessed no product spillages left unattended or similar slip or trip-hazards, the air quality is good.  Aisle width is narrow but the aisles have never been obstructed by neglected boxes or product pallets in my experience.  Access ways appear to be well-maintained and are kept free.  The premises appear, to a layman's eye, to be clean and free of vermin.

The Protection of Children from Harm

Hazardous products, such as bleaches, matches or other inflammables are stored on higher shelves.  I have never seen any kind of remotely salacious products on sale.  Alcohol and cigarettes are kept behind the counter; in the case of wines and spirits, stored on high shelves or the higher racks in fridges.

These are the facts, to the best of my knowledge and perceptionn.

Faithfully

To whom it may concern.

I support the proposed application By Mr A Rahaman to extend his licensing hours and to change the name of his premises.

Mr Rahaman and his staff operate a well run business and have a responsible attitude to the selling of alcohol and tobacco to the local community. There are security cameras which support the security of the local area which benefits residents who chose to uses his establishment or not.

There is little or no noise of customers arriving or leaving the premises , there is a takeaway restaurant next door and another licensed establishment up the road.

For equal opportunities this license should be granted.

Hi

Thank you for your email today

1)      The Prevention of Crime and Disorder

There is no reason to believe any impact on this. It is a quiet area.

2)      The Prevention of Public Nuisance

Nothing in the application would cause a Public Nuisance

3)      Public Safety (relating to the premises)

I do not believe public safety would be compromised.

4)      The Protection of Children from Harm

No alcohol is sold to minors.

The Sweet Shop is well managed as far as my experience is concerned, friendly service with a smile! I can’t comprehend why anybody would object or say differently unless it was malicious!
